We are launching a new initiative rooted in the Ionian Sea and its sailing culture:
the upcycling of retired sails from boats across the Ionian islands into functional bags and everyday products.
Old sails are made to endure wind, salt, and sun. When they can no longer be used at sea, they are often discarded. We believe they still have value — not as waste, but as material with history.
Each product is made from used sails collected in the Ionian region, carefully cleaned and reworked by hand. No two pieces are the same. Marks, seams, and signs of use are preserved as part of the story.
Sails are high-performance textiles designed to last for decades, yet they are difficult to recycle through conventional systems. By upcycling them locally, we:
Extend the life of existing materials
Reduce textile waste and landfill impact
Avoid the environmental cost of producing new synthetic fabrics
Keep materials within the region they come from
This is a low-impact, small-scale process, focused on quality, durability, and purpose rather than mass production.
15% of all profits from this initiative will be directly reinvested in the community of Kalamos Island.
These funds will support local needs and small-scale projects that contribute to the island’s sustainability and long-term wellbeing.
Kalamos is not just where we are based — it is part of why this project exists.
Our first collection of upcycled sail products will soon be available for pre-order.
By pre-ordering, you help us:
Produce responsibly and avoid overproduction
Support local making and fair processes
Build a model that respects both environment and community
More details will be shared shortly.
