Water Infrastracture

The project “Episkopi Water Springs Revival” aims to re-introduce the concept of the neighbourhood spring not only as a place of water supply for all families and passers-by, but also as a central element of the local community and its heritage value as an integral part of the island’s history. Our goal is to raise awareness of the local cultural and the natural heritage and contribute to citizens’ wellbeing.

Pelagoo is collaborating with the Municipality of Lefkada, together with four other partners: Ionian Enviromental Foundation (IEF), the Patra’s University Department of Geology , the engineering consultants KMavridou, and the architectural and urban planning office Kasawoo.

Through a series of interrelated activities, this project will contribute to the conservation and cultivation of local cultural wealth and focus on Kalamos island that suffers from weak heritage branding in comparison to the other Ionian Islands.

Though a series of actions our plan is to:

  • Tested water quality, FREE access for all

  • Greater self-sufficiency of the island in terms of drinking water

  • Reduction of the number of plastic bottles entering from the mainland, helping to reduce environmental pollution

  • Encourage the use of reusable water containers to meet the needs of local households

  • Empowerment of the local community by making the permanent residents protagonists, through participation.

In collaboration with the university we will frequently measure the water quality and share the measurements to the municipality for monitoring.
